“小年”

小年并非专指一个节日，由于各地风俗，被称为小年的节日也不尽相同。小年期间主要的民俗活动有贴春联，扫尘，祭灶等。小年在各地有不同的概念和日期，北方地区是腊月二十三，南方地区是腊月二十四，江浙沪地区把“腊月廿四”和“除夕前一夜”都称为小年，南京地区称正月十五的元宵节为小年，云南部分地区是正月十六，西南和北方部分少数民族地区是除夕。

小年也意味着人们开始准备年货，准备干干净净过个好年，表示新年要有新气象，表达了中国劳动人民一种辞旧迎新、迎祥纳福的美好愿望。

To the outsiders of the USA, we can understand the “Common Core Math Program” is good for American children education, which is supported by Bill Gates with generous $6-billion donation.

The American parents who resist and oppose the ‘Common Core’ Math were like the Singaporean parents who opposed the “Singapore Math Program” in the 1980s. The Singapore parents had to go through remedial classes before they could coach their kids in the ‘new way’. Result proved that after 20 years, Singapore is ranked 2nd in the PISA Test World Ranking in Math (after Shanghai of China).

Pearl Ball （珍珠圆子）

珍珠圆子是湖北沔阳（今仙桃市）著名的汉族小吃，系著名的“沔阳三蒸”之一。沔阳珍珠圆子是以猪瘦肉、肥肉做成的圆子，再滚以糯米蒸制而成，圆子蒸熟后，外面粘的整粒糯米发光油亮，形似珍珠，因而得名。
材料：糯米，猪肉，盐，葱，姜，生抽，胡椒粉

ingredients： sticky rice, pork, salt, green onion, ginger, light soy sauce, black pepper powder
1. Soak sticky rice in the water for at least two hours. Take out and drain. 浸泡糯米至少两个小时然后沥干水。

2. Make minced pork. Put in some chopped green onion and ginger. Add some salt, light soy sauce and black pepper powder. If you like some other condiments, you can add as well. 把猪肉绞成肉馅，加入葱花姜末，盐，生抽和黑胡椒粉。按照个人口味添加，如果你还喜欢其他调味品也可以加入。

3. Make small meat balls with minced pork. 把肉馅搓成很多个小肉丸。

4. Let small meat balls roll in the sticky rice until they are fully coated with sticky rice.让肉丸在糯米里滚动直到外面沾满一层糯米。

5. Steam meat balls for around 15 minutes.上锅蒸15分钟。
